Goals for Pronunciation Exercises

おはよおございます!いまごぜんはちじはんです、くがつにじゅうくがつです。Welcome again to my blog. Today I will detail some goals about how to improve my Japanese speaking skills, in particular my pronunciation of Japanese words and sentences. Fluency in speech and understanding is the aspect of Japanese language learning that is most important to me at the moment. I will move to Tokyo late next summer, for a 2-year post-doc, and it would be great if I could achieve a basic understanding of conversations by the end of that time.
Specifically, the goals I have chosen are:
いち) Attend the office hour of a せんせい once a week
に) Shadowing two scenes of an anime show (I chose Attack on Titan) every weekday (maybe 20 minutes effort in total per day)
さん) When my speaking skills have progressed a little bit more, maybe in 2-3 weeks, attend the にほんご language table once a week.
What I hope to achieve with these exercises:
a) The shadowing exercise will allow me to compare my own way of speaking to that of Japanese characters in the show. I hope to increase my speed of speaking the language, and also improve my understanding
b) During the office hour, and at the language table, I hope to be able to talk to other students of Japanese 101 and learn how to have a coherent conversation with another person.
c) Currently I think I need to work most on the speed of my speaking and understanding, and my pronunciation of certain sounds like つ、く、じゅ、 and other じ-related glides.

  1. That is really cool, that you are moving to Tokyo next summer! I look forward to learning Japanese with you. I think it's exciting that you know you are going to be immersed in Japanese in a little under a year, and you're learning how to "swim"!
